ISA Tree Climber Written Exam and Skills Test
ACTC will be scheduling the next ISA Tree Climber Written Exam and Skills Test for April 2026. This will allow the opportunity for all interested candidates to complete the steps of the application process, which includes the gathering and submission of work history, applying and registering for the written exam and the skills test, and preparing for the written exam and the skills test. This application, testing and certification process is completed directly with ISA. Start your application process now! Each step may take up to 3 weeks or more. This program is for individuals who may want to review or improve their tree climber knowledge.
This program does NOT include registration for the ISA Certified Tree Climber Exam or Skills Test, see below for more info.
Detailed Schedule:
Morning - Classroom Learning
8:00am - 8:30 am Check-In
8:30am - 9:15 am Tree Health and Science
How trees grow and defend against decay; how to recognize signs of decay.
9:15 am- 10:00 am Pruning The costs and benefits of pruning; the physiology of pruning; pruning techniques.
10:00 am- 11:00am Removal How to safely and efficiently perform tree removals; height estimation, felling, climbing, bucking and lifting; the use of cranes during tree removal.
11:00 am- 12:00 pm Cabling and Bracing Reasons for installing cables and braces; hardware and tools; attachment techniques.
12:00 pm - 1:00 pm Lunch Lunch is on your own.
AFTER LUNCH - at Park
Afternoon at Park - Demonstational Learning*
1:00 - 2:30 pm Safety/Climbing Current safety regulations; personal protection equipment, chainsaw safety; electrical hazards; climbing equipment, ropes and knots; methods for ascending, descending and working in trees.
2:30 - 3:30 pm Rigging Use of rigging ropes and equipment; techniques for proper rigging.
