As practitioners of plant health care our “patients” cannot tell us where it hurts. But we can learn to listen to a way they do communicate, primarily through their leaves. We will look at trees leaves to help with one of the most important first questions when evaluating a tree in decline, is the cause abiotic or biotic. Misdiagnosis of the cause of tree decline can lead to misuse of chemicals or other mitigation procedures. The incorrect treatment can often increase harm to the Tree “patient”, applicator, and environment.
