    Salary Range:
    Parks Maintenance Technician Trainee: $15.20 Hourly
    Parks Maintenance Technician I+: $16.81 to $22.58 Hourly
    Parks Maintenance Technician II+: $18.55 to $24.93 Hourly
    Parks Maintenance Technician III+: $20.82 to $27.97 Hourly

    Parks Maintenance Technician Senior: $24.34 to $32.69 Hourly

    This position is part of a flexible classification. Qualified candidates may be hired at either level based on their experience, education and training as determined by the hiring authority.

    This position is classified as safety sensitive.

    Schedule: Urban Forestry: 5:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Summer and 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Winter; Monday through Friday. 9/80 flex schedule and overtime may be available.

    DESCRIPTION

    Urban Forestry – This specific position will work under the guidance of the City’s Urban Forester to maintain and grow Tempe’s Urban Forest resource with a focus on City parks. This will include planting, pruning, removals, inspections, health assessment, inventory, and community outreach.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Work Experience:
    Parks Maintenance Trainee:
    One year of responsible work experience is required. Some training or volunteer work experience related to the core functions of parks, grounds, or sports field maintenance is preferred.


    Parks Maintenance Technician I+:

    One year of experience in the maintenance of lawns, gardens, trees, athletic fields, golf courses or related as well as some experience operating small or medium sized equipment such as blowers, weed eaters, trimmers, power washers or mowers.

    Parks Maintenance Technician II+:
    One year of experience comparable to that of a Parks Maintenance Technician I+ in the City of Tempe and experience working independently in one skilled area related to maintenance of City parks, golf courses, athletic fields or cemetery.


    Parks Maintenance Technician III+:

    One year of experience comparable to that of a Parks Maintenance Technician II+ in the City of Tempe and experience working independently in two skilled areas related to maintenance of City parks, golf courses, athletic fields or cemetery.

    Senior Parks Maintenance Technician:
    One year of experience comparable to that of a Parks Maintenance Technician III+ in the City of Tempe and experience working independently in three skilled areas related to maintenance of City parks, golf courses, athletic fields or cemetery.


    Years of experience are based upon a full-time work schedule (2,080 hours per year).  The sum of anapplicant’s full-time and/or part-time qualifying work experience must meet or exceed the stated minimum qualification. Education will not substitute for the required work experience; however, related unpaid and/or volunteer work experience may be used as qualifying work experience. 

    Education:
    Parks Maintenance Trainee:
    Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.


    Parks Maintenance Technician I/II/III/Senior:Requires a high school diploma or GED. The term “equivalent” means that directly related work experience exceeding the required work experience will substitute in equal time increments for college-level education, for example: one year of additional directly related work experience will substitute for one year of college education (30 credit hours).

    Certifications, Licenses, and/or Registrations:
    Parks Maintenance Technician Trainee:
     Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

    Parks Maintenance Technician I/II/III/Senior:

     Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.


     Possession and maintenance of any and all licenses and certifications related to

    the employee’s defined skilled area(s) of expertise.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
