    JOB SUMMARY:

    The position is responsible for the implementation and development of the Urban and Community Forestry (UCF) Program and Forest Health (FH) Program.

    Responsibilities for each program will include:

    Urban and Community Forestry Program

    • Implementation of a UCF Statewide Strategic Plan while ensuring connection to local, regional, and national UCF priorities
    • Coordination and development of a robust UCF advisory council to guide and inform annual planning and review Community Challenge Grants
    • Provide homeowners, neighborhoods, non-profit organizations, and communities with tree selection, tree planting, and tree care information
    • Manage a Statewide UCF cost-share grant program (Community Challenge Grants, Tree Resource Enhancement and Engagement Grants)
    • Oversee the organization of an annual State of Arizona Arbor Day Celebration and manage statewide recognition programs (Tree City USA, Arizona's Magnificent Trees, Arbor Day Celebration Awards, etc)

    Forest Health Program

    • Development and Implementation of a FH Statewide Strategic Plan with assistance from FH staff
    • Monitor and provide guidance on forest health issues throughout the state. This includes supervision of staff that participate in the annual Aerial Detection Survey preformed in conjunction with the USDA Forest Service - Forest Health Protection Team
    • Work collectively in collaboration with local government, other state and federal agencies, Arizona universities and organizations concerned with monitoring and improving forest health conditions within the State
    • Manage a statewide FH cost-share grant program

     

    SELECTIVE PREFERENCE(S):

    REQUIRED: A Bachelor of Science Degree in Forestry or Natural Resource Management (or related).

    PREFERRED: 3-5 years’ experience working in state forestry programs. Experience managing grants and writing / developing grant proposals. ISA Certified Arborist.
